Flat-Switch Scoubi-Doggle

The Thin 8 Flat-Switch a spectacular Scoubi-Doggle that you can make!
Thin 8 Flat-Switch

Flat-Switch

Made from four strands, this very interesting Scoubi-Doggle is incredibly simple to make. You start with the Thin-8 Brick for a few layers and then weave four Thin-8 Twist layers. By repeating this process, you get that peculiar shape that almost looks like you physically twisted the Scoubi-Doggle.

This one was tricky to name. I thought of names like Twist-Curve and Turn-Brick, but the name Flat-Switch stuck. This same style can be applied to larger Scoubi-Doggles like the Super-16, Mega-14, and  10-Way.

So try it yourself, it's easier than it looks!

The Crooked Ladder

The amazing Crooked Ladder Scoubi-Doggle
The Crooked Ladder

The Crooked Ladder

Just a few months ago, I decided to make a new Scoubi-Doggle. I wanted to make the coolest weaved craft ever! So I thought of some of my favorite styles which include: The Slow-Motion Switch Back, the Super-16, and the Dotted Spiral. I would use these in my next creation.

So I started a 2x6 Super-16, and did a couple of twist layers. At that moment I decided to split the sixteen strings into two separate Thick-8 Scoubi-Doggles. I weaved three Twist layers on each followed by one brick layer. Then I weaved three more twist layers, which made a short switch-back on each Thick-8. Finally I reconnected the two Thick-8 Scoubi-Doggles just like you would reconnect a simple ladder.

When I finished, I decided on the name "Crooked Ladder" because it flows nice and thats what the actual Scoubi-Doggle looks like.

The Crooked Ladder is featured on the Scoubi-Doggle home page and is becoming a noticeable icon.

The incredible Super-16 Twist Scoubi-Doggle
Super-16 Scoubi-Doggle
Super-16 Twist Scoubi-Doggle

Made with sixteen strands and measuring nearly two inches in width, the Super-16 is the largest Scoubi-Doggle yet.

This particular craft took me about two hours to complete. Though time consuming, it was worth it. I starred at the basket like structure through 30 weaved layers. It was created to demonstrate the end result of the Super-16 Scoubi-Doggle. The instructions, on how to create this magnificent piece of art, are available at http://scoubi-doggle.flaresoftware.com/learn.html

Creating the Super-16 Scoubi-Doggle is very difficult at first. Keeping the amount of tightness through every layer can be challenging. But near the last five layers you finally get the hang of it. The same method for creating the Super-16 Brick is used in creating the Super-16 Twist, except when making your loops you go diagonal instead of straight across.

Eventually, I will make Scoubi-Doggles with more strands. The next will either be 18 or 20 strands. The key to making large Scoubi-Doggles is to tighten with the same amount of force each layer. The larger the craft the slower the tightening process.

So, give it a try yourself.
